About PJ McCann
Thank you so much for everything you did to make this race possible. While I am obviously disappointed in the outcome, I could not be more proud of the positive, inclusive, issues-based campaign we ran, or more optimistic about the future of our community. I extended my congratulations to Dan Hunt last night and offered whatever I can do to be helpful. I hope you will join me in offering him your support and warm wishes.
When we started this less than two months ago, a lot of people asked why I would subject myself to running for office. Having done it, in this district, in this city, I can tell you truly that this experience has given me more encouragement about the political process, faith in my neighbors, and appreciation for my friends and family then I've ever known before.
And I think we accomplished a great deal over the past eight weeks. I like to believe that our presence in this conversation about the future of our city helped to focus the attention of the other candidates on the critically important issue of shared economic opportunity through jobs and new affordable housing in our neighborhoods.
We had an amazing opportunity to tell our story at countless civic associations and informal conversations at doorsteps, train stations, beneath underpasses, and phone phone calls. From what I can tell, our message and policy positions resonated in the district and helped to shape the conversation.
We brought people together on this campaign who had never worked on a campaign before, many who had checked out of the political process altogether but who saw something in our message and what we are trying to do. Thank you. I am encouraged about the future of our community because I know so many people, particularly Dan, John, Liam, and Gene are pulling so hard to make it better.
I am not going away. Next week I will get back to work doing my part in city government. Immediately, I am committed to going to work as a better citizen. Dorchester was promised a lot during this campaign and I will work in my own life to make sure that our community gets the attention and investment it deserves and shares more equitably in our city's prosperity.
The powerful play of the political life of this neighborhood goes on. I’m proud of the verse we contributed. I love you all. I return to a life that I love with the firm conviction that even considering the results, I am the luckiest guy to emerge from this field.
I look forward to thanking you individually sometime soon.
